FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything founders and CTOs ask us before starting a project — pricing, timelines, process, technology, and what it's like to work together. If your question isn't here, book a free call or email admin@dedev.co.

Pricing

How much does it cost to build a mobile app?

MVP pricing starts at $5,000 and typically ranges from $5k–$12k depending on features and platform. Hourly engagements (team extension and post-launch work) are billed at $45/hr. Use the interactive calculator on our pricing page for a ballpark estimate, then book a call for a fixed-price quote.

How does fixed-price work? What if the scope changes?

We agree on a written feature list before the project starts and lock the price against it. If the build takes longer than we estimated, that's our cost — your invoice doesn't change. If you want to add features mid-project, we scope them as a separate, clearly priced milestone so the original agreement stays intact.

Is the initial consultation really free?

Yes. The 30-minute scoping call and the written fixed-price proposal that follows are free, whether or not you hire us. We turn down roughly a third of projects we're asked to quote because they're not a good fit — and we'll tell you that on the call.

What are the payment terms?

Fixed-price MVPs are split into milestones — typically a kickoff payment, one or two mid-project milestones tied to demos, and a final payment at handoff. Team extension is billed weekly for hours worked, and you can pause or stop anytime. Details are on the pricing page.

Timeline

How long does it take to build a mobile app MVP with dedev?

Most MVPs ship in 2–8 weeks. Simple Flutter MVPs can be delivered in as little as 2 weeks, while more complex apps with multiple integrations typically take 4–8 weeks. We maintain a 90% on-time delivery rate across 30+ apps.

How fast can you start?

For team extension, a senior engineer can be in your standup within 48 hours. For fixed-price MVPs, kickoff usually happens within a week of signing the proposal — design starts immediately after.

What happens if the project runs late?

On a fixed-price engagement, a delay is our problem, not your budget — the price doesn't move. We protect the deadline by scoping tightly upfront, syncing daily as a team, and flagging risks the day we see them, which is how 90% of our projects land on time. See how we work for the full system.

Process

What does the dedev process look like?

Fixed scope, fixed price, full visibility. You get daily Slack updates, daily standups, weekly demo videos, real-time Jira access, daily git pushes, and QA reports every two days. You work directly with the developers building your product, not account managers. The full breakdown is on the process page.

How do I know what was done each week?

Every Friday you get a screen-recorded demo video of the app running on a real device. Between demos, you can watch progress yourself: standup notes land in Slack daily, code is pushed to your repository daily, and the Jira board is shared with you in real time.

Do you handle App Store and Google Play submission?

Yes — store submission is included in every MVP tier. We prepare the listings and assets, submit under your developer account or ours, and handle reviewer feedback until both stores approve the app.

What happens after launch?

Every MVP includes 30 days of free bug fixes after launch. Beyond that, you can keep building with us at $45/hr, scope the next fixed-price milestone, or take the codebase fully in-house — you own the source and documentation either way.

Technology

What technology does dedev use?

We are Flutter-first for mobile, with deep experience in Dart, React Native, native Swift (iOS), and Kotlin (Android). Our backend stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Firebase, and Supabase. We deploy to AWS and GCP.

Do you build for both iOS and Android?

Yes. Most projects use Flutter to ship to iOS and Android from a single codebase, which cuts cost and time-to-market roughly in half versus building two native apps. We also handle App Store and Google Play submission for you.

Why Flutter instead of native or React Native?

For most MVPs, Flutter delivers the best cost-to-quality ratio: one codebase for both platforms, near-native performance, and a mature ecosystem. We still recommend native or React Native when a project genuinely needs it — we've written an honest comparison in Flutter vs React Native.

Working together

Can I hire Flutter developers to extend my team?

Yes. Through our Team Extension service, vetted senior Flutter and React Native engineers can join your existing team within 48 hours. They participate in your daily standups, push to your repos, and report to your tech lead — no recruitment overhead.

Who owns the code and the IP?

You do. Full source code lives in a repository you control from day one, and intellectual-property transfer is part of every engagement — no licensing fees, no lock-in. If you ever want to move on, you lose nothing.

Where is dedev located?

dedev LLC is a remote-first company serving clients in the US, UK, and across 15+ countries. All work is delivered remotely with timezone overlap negotiated per engagement.

What is dedev's track record?

30+ mobile apps shipped, 4.9/5 average rating across 30+ Upwork engagements, 90% on-time delivery, clients in 15+ countries. Notable work includes Toyota Connect Middle East (100K+ users) and Amino Move (900K+ users) — see the case studies.
